Palazzo Massarucci is a stunning, pink stone, rustic castle, forming the south wall of the charming villiage of Macerino, a 15th Century village.  Palazzo Massarucci was built in the foundation of a Medieval Fortress, perched on a hillside in the middle of an enchanting forest.

The property is available for weekly and monthly holiday letting. Less than 2 hours drive north of Rome or south of Assisi, the property is best reached by car. The property is near to Spoleto, Assisi and Todi and a few hours from Florence. If you do not wish to drive your car to Rome or Florence or further afield, you can drive to Spoleto and catch the train to Rome or Florence.

With large north and south facing windows that invite perfumed cross breezes in summer, the castle offers skylights, glass roof panels and terraces that make  it an unusually bright, and cheery castle with extraordinary views and complete privacy.

A large private pool and lawn and gardens that have stunning views of the Spoleto Valley, and the rugged forests, hills and valleys of the Massa Martana. The castle’s 600 year old stone walls, that reach a thickness of 1.5 meters (5 feet) on the ground floor, offer a cool and fresh interior.

Bulbs and perennials ensure early blooms of colour. The archaeological Roman site of Carsulae is a hike away and snow skiing is an  hour away.

The restaurants are very happy to cater for special events and  have catered for many weddings. There is a catholic church in the small village of Macerino.

A nearby country style grocery offers a deli and home grown vegetables and wine. There is a coffee shop next door.

The  vast forests surrounding the castle are rich with truffle, asparagus and Mushroom, wild boar and deer, and offer a  kaleidoscope of colour  throughout the seasons.

Palazzo Massarucci in the Spring and Summer

Wonderful walks, horse riding and a great forest to explore, plus a wonderful swimming pool to just enjoy, without leaving your Castle await you for a summer or spring Italian holiday to remember.

While you drive, in and out of the  forest to get to the other towns, the beauty of the setting and the spaciousness of the Palazzo  are ample trade- offs for this  is a very special  experience, it is a little like  being  part of  another world, and it is the location  that makes it so.

Take a short trip to Rome for the Christmas lights, and to other wonderful hill towns around  you to experience the individual history of these amazing hill towns. Enjoy delightful lunches at local restaurants, making for lovely days, before returning to your warm Castle, sit in front of the fire and reminisce of the wonderful day you have had.

Fireworks for Christmas and New Year, and the very big possibility of snow. December and January is a winter holiday, and they are quite special.

Legand has it that Lucrezia Borgia stayed in Palazzo Massarucci, one can only wonder which one of the 6 roaring fires, warmed her threw the winter. Lucrezia  was the daughter of Rodrigo Borgia who was Pope Alexander V1.

Massarucci was the seat of the Vicar’s of Umbria for 200 years.

In 2002 Palazzo Massarucci was the residence of Sophia Loren for 3 months as she filmed the Italian/Canadian production of Lives of the Saints.
